Hansal Mehta reacted to producer Naga Vamsi’s claim that “Mumbai didn’t sleep” after Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 minted Rs 80 crore in a single day. Director Mehta called out Naga Vamsi for his “arrogance”. He also mentioned that Naga Vamsi’s production Lucky Bhaskar “borrowed liberally” from the Scam series in his X post.
Hansal Mehta wrote on X, “Since this person Mr Naga Vamsi was being so arrogant and now that I know who he is: His latest hit as a producer Lucky Bhaskar has borrowed liberally from the Scam series.”
He added, “Reason I brought this up is that I feel happy that stories travel and a film in another language suceeds in replicating what has worked for us. Everybody wins. Nobody is bigger than the other. That narrative is destructive. Arrogance is even worse.”
He signed off with these words, “To all those haters coming at me on my TL – see you in 2025.” Take a look:

On another occasion, sharing a video clip from the interview, Hansal Mehta wrote on X, “Chill dude whoever you are… I live in Mumbai. Been sleeping really well.” Take a look:

For context, Naga Vamsi appeared at the producers’ roundtable by Galatta Plus, along with Boney Kapoor. In the interview, he said, “whole of Mumbai didn’t sleep after Pushpa 2 earned over ₹80 crore in a single day”. Boney Kapoor added that the numbers he was referring to were from the Hindi belt alone.
Hansal Mehta’s Scam 1992 (2020), is based on the life of Harshad Mehta, brilliantly portrayed by Pratik Gandhi. Scam 2003 (2023) was directed by Tushar Hiranandani. Hansal Mehta was the co-director on the series. It is based on the counterfeiting of stamped paper by Abdul Karim Telgi in the early 2000s. Gagan Dev Riar played the lead role.
Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 emerged as the biggest blockbuster of the year 2024 as the film globally collected Rs 1500 crore. Surprisingly and significantly, the film’s Hindi version contributed Rs 775.50 crore to the total number.
