Hyderabad: Even as Hyderabad reeled from the brutal murder of Sahasra (Sahasrini), a Class 6 student killed five days ago in Kukatpally, it has now emerged that the crime was committed by a 14-year-old Class 10 boy, sending shockwaves across the city.
The Balanagar police took into custody the minor boy who is suspected to have killed a 12-year-old girl at her house in the locality on Monday, August 18. The girl was a student of Class 6 at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Begumpet.
The case was a challenging one to the police, as there were no CCTV cameras installed at the victim’s building. Even the CCTV cameras in the lane were either not working, or were not focusing towards the building where the crime took place.
A software engineer working from home on the day of the murder reportedly informed the police that he spotted the boy stepping out of the victim’s house, going back in, and staying there for 15 minutes before coming out and jumping back into his building.
There was also hardly any gap between the two buildings involved, and the accused, who has been staying on the fourth floor of the adjacent building, could enter the penthouse of Sahasra located in the third floor of her building just by easily jumping across.
The boy had allegedly entered the house of the girl while her parents were away. He allegedly tried to steal Rs 80,000 kept in the house and tried to break open the Hundi (pot containing monetary offerings made to god).
He initially planned a gas leak at the house to burn it down after the theft; however, the girl’s presence foiled his plan.

When he came across the victim in the house, he punched her, sat on her, and suffocated her. After doubting that the girl might not have died, the boy then took a knife that he brought with him, and stabbed her indiscriminately.
The girl was found dead on a cot in her house with 18 stab wounds in her abdomen and 7 on her neck, when her father came home to fetch lunch box for his son (Sahasra’s younger brother), who had gone to school that day.
She was alone at home, as her school declared holiday to those who were not participating in the sports meet organised at her school on the unfateful day.
The police, during the investigation into the case, had taken into custody three persons. However, all three could not be linked to the case. One of them was Sanjay, a migrant worker from Bihar. His daughter urged the police on Friday, to let go her father, as the real culprit has been nabbed.
The accused and his sister had also attended Sahasra’s birthday party at her house just few days before the incident. It came to light that Sahasra and her younger brother used to play with the accused and his sister, along with other children in the locality.
The accused was studying in a private school close to the locality, and used to frequent the house of the victim.
The police recreated the crime scene with the accused on Friday, even as hundreds had gathered outside the victim’s house on Friday evening.
The accused, who is a juvenile, is expected to be sent to the Juvenile Home on Saturday, August 23, where he may spend the next few years, or a decade, as per the judgement on the case.
