Emirates is widely known for being the world’s largest operator of the Airbus A380, and the only carrier to have truly made the double-decker widebody quadjet work on a large scale. It has been able to do so thanks to the strength of its hub at 
Dubai International Airport (DXB), which acts as a focal point for transit traffic in the Middle East. However, its huge fleet of A380s isn’t getting any younger.
Indeed, according to ch-aviation, the 117 units of the A380 that are registered to the Dubai-based UAE flag carrier have an average age of 11.6 years. The most senior of these bears the registration A6-EDF: at 20.5 years old, it was just the seventh A380 to roll off the production line.
Multiple Visits To The UK
The sample period that we will be using to analyze A6-EDF’s activity in this article is August 1-10. During this time, the oldest A380 in the Emirates fleet was busy on various long-haul routes, with the UK being its most common destination country-wise. Indeed, per Flightradar24, it started the month with a round trip from DXB to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) and back on August 1.
The following day, it also flew to the capital city of the United Kingdom. However, its destination in this instance was London Heathrow Airport (LHR) as opposed to Gatwick. A6-EDF did then return to Gatwick twice more during the period in question, on August 5 and 9, with the latter being followed by a round trip to Manchester (MAN) on August 10. Earlier this year, Emirates commented on its efforts to install Starlink WiFi on its A380s.

German & Asian Routes Also Feature
While A6-EDF is clearly a jet that Emirates favors on its routes out of DXB to airports in the United Kingdom, this was not the only European nation that the aircraft served in the first ten days of the month. Indeed, August 3 saw it operate a shorter round trip to Munich Airport (MUC) in southeastern Germany and back, with both of these flights taking between six and seven hours.
Otherwise, the aircraft has primarily been occupied with flights to the east in early August. Indeed, following the aforementioned Munich rotation on August 3, its next destination was Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) in South Korea on August 4. This round trip featured its longest flights of the month so far, taking eight hours to fly out to Seoul and nine hours to fly back to Dubai (overnight).

The jet’s other two round trips during the period in question also had an Asian flavor, with the destination in both cases being Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Thailand. The first of these was an overnight rotation, flying out on August 7 and back on August 8, while the second saw both the outbound and return legs take place on August 9. These flights were on the shorter side, at around six hours.
All About A6-EDF
Data from ch-aviation shows that Emirates ordered A6-EDF on November 4, 2001. While it first flew on February 19, 2006, it was not actually delivered to the Dubai-based UAE flag carrier until more than three years later, on December 11, 2009. Its minimum retirement date is currently set at January 2032, and, as of May 31, 2026, it had amassed 45,892 flight hours across 7,539 flight cycles.

As detailed in the table above, A6-EDF is not one of the examples of the A380 that Emirates has chosen to fit with its new premium economy product. Instead, the airline favors a three-class layout with space for a grand total of 517 passengers, of which 90 (16%) are accommodated in premium cabins. Per Planespotters.net, it was stored in Dubai from 2020 to 2025, hence its relatively low flight hours.
