Watch: No Handshake Between Harmanpreet Kaur, Fatima Sana At Asia Cup Toss Ceremony
India and Pakistan are locking horns in the ninth match of the Women's Asia Cup in Dubai. Before the game, all eyes were on the toss ceremony as the fans wanted to see if there would be a handshake between the two captains, Harmanpreet Kaur and Fatima Sana. There was no handshake between them. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first in the much-awaited fixture. "We're gonna bat first because we want to put a maximum total here. Yeah, because we know we have a good bowling side, so we will try to restrict them. We had a good chat with the team and we just want to play according to the pitch. We have the same team," Pakistan captain said.
"Our bowling is doing great in this tournament and good getting the opportunity to bowl first. I think while batting it's always about giving ourselves some time and then going for your shots. And I think the first two games we did really well in that department and hopefully we'll continue. Great achievement (on 150th game as captain). But the key is keep enjoying yourself on the field and that is a key, I try to keep up with that. We'll try to restrict them for a short total, so there won't be pressure while chasing. We're going with the same eleven," Harmanpreet said.
India have been avoiding shaking hands with Pakistani captains since the 2025 Asia Cup. During the 2025 Men's Asia Cup, Suryakumar Yadav didn't shake hands with Salman Agha in all three games. He avoided the Pakistani captain during the 2026 T20 World Cup as well. Harmanpreet didn't shake hands with her counterpart during the T20 World Cup and before the Asia Cup fixture.
Meanwhile, Pakistan are struggling in the ongoing fixture and they were reeling at 48/8 after 15 overs. With three wickets, Shree Charani has been India's star performer with the ball.
