Rs. 83 Lakh Gold Chain Hidden In Sweater: 31-Year-Old Woman Arrested at Ahmedabad Airport

Customs officials at Ahmedabad Airport have intercepted a 31-year-old woman from Bhavnagar for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold concealed inside her clothing. The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) recovered a 499.540-gram gold chain of 24-carat purity, valued at ₹83,14,843.

According to Ahmedabad Customs, the passenger was intercepted on the basis of passenger profiling after she arrived in Ahmedabad from Sharjah on August 23, 2026, by Air Arabia flight G9-418.

During examination, officers found the gold chain concealed inside her high-neck sweater. The jewellery weighed 499.540 grams and was found to be 24-carat gold. The gold jewellery, with a total market value of ₹83,14,843, was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The woman was subsequently arrested under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act and was later released on bail.

Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the attempted gold smuggling.
