SALT LAKE CITY — Homes and cabins in the HiLo area and Eagle Point near Beaver have been advised to evacuate due to a fast-moving wildfire in the area.
The U.S. Forest Service announced the evacuation advisory, which originated with Beaver County Emergency Management, on X.
The Cottonwood Fire started Monday afternoon and grew quickly. Homes and cabins in Eagle Point, Merchant Valley, HiLo Estates, Arrowhead Summer Homes and surrounding areas were under mandatory evacuation orders, with advice to head east to Junction.

Utah Fire Info named the fire the Cottonwood Fire. As of Monday night, the blaze had burned 10,000 acres and was 0% contained. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
A section of state Route 153 was closed in both directions due to the fire. Multiple ground and air resources responded, including local and state fire departments. Smoke was visible from I-15 and I-70, as well as U.S.-89.
The entire state of Utah is designated as in high, very high or extreme fire danger, according to Utah Fire Info. Thus far into the 2026 wildfire season, the interagency fire information resource reports that there have been 341 fires — 259 of them human-caused — that have destroyed 64,208 acres across Utah. Six fires have sparked in the last 24 hours.
