Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is struggling to perform well at the box office. Released on January 17, the film earned ₹35 lakhs on its second Friday, according to a Sacnilk report.

On Day 8, Emergency recorded an overall 10.39% occupancy for Hindi screenings. So far, the movie has collected ₹14.65 crore in the domestic market, the report added.

Emergency is a historical biographical drama that explores an important chapter in India’s history – the 21-month period from 1975 to 1977, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency nationwide.

In addition to directing Emergency, Kangana Ranaut also leads the film as Indira Gandhi, with Anupam Kher portraying Jayaprakash Narayan and Shreyas Talpade playing Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Ashok Chhabra, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair and Satish Kaushik are also seen in the project.

A few days ago, Shreyas Talpade shared his thoughts on playing the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Emergency in a chat with NDTV’s Hardika Gupta. This comes after Pankaj Tripathi’s much-praised portrayal of the former Prime Minister in Main Atal Hoon.

When asked if he felt pressured by the audience’s expectations or comparisons with Pankaj Tripathi’s performance, Shreyas clarified that he didn’t feel any pressure.

“As far as comparison is considered with Pankaj ji, we shot around the same time. So we shot pretty much together. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen his films, so I don’t really know if I copied him or he copied me. But the shoot of both films happened around the same time, so there’s no way I could have seen the film or felt pressured about it,” Shreyas Talpade explained. Click here for the full story.
