While Cynthia Erivo’s portrayal of Elphaba is being hailed as one of the finest this year, producer Marc Platt reveals, Demi Moore was the original choice
Wicked is one of the most successful musicals of 2024 and Cynthia Erivo’s role as the green wizard has received widespread acclaim.
However, in a new conversation with Vanity Fair, producer Marc Platt revealed how Demi Moore was the first choice for the role of Elphaba in the film.
He also confessed how the film had been in the making even before the Original Broadway Musical took place in 2003.
Demi Moore has been in the news for a while now for her phenomenal performance in her latest series The Substance.
Recalling the timeline of when the film started its production, the producer said to a media portal, “I am going to try and get the timeline right if I can remember. But I believe when I became the president of production at Universal, the project was already here… It had been optioned initially by Demi Moore’s company.”
He further added that he strongly believed that Moore was perfect for the role of Elphaba.
He stated, “I think on different days she could do either, but in the moment, it was definitely for Elphaba.”
Some other names who were considered for the role were Salma Hayek, Claire Danes, and Whoopi Goldberg.
There were a few considerations for the role of Glinda too, namely Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Emma Thompson.
The film will be available on streaming platforms soon.
