The Supreme Court on Monday expressed concern over recent instances in which state governments had approached it seeking directions against the centre, and called on both sides to cooperate rather than compete. “Let there not be a contest between the union and states,” the court said as it heard a writ petition by Karnataka government for release of drought relief funds. The average CEO compensation in India stood at Rs 13.8 crore, up 40 per cent compared with pre-COVID-19 times, and more than half of the overall remuneration is linked to short-term and long-term incentives, says a Deloitte report. The Supreme Court favoured remission to an ailing 96-year-old convict serving life term in the 1993 Rajasthan train blast case and currently on parole, saying continued incarceration is “like capital punishment”.
