The Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday said the CBI requires written consent from the state before it can initiate inquiries in its jurisdiction. A notification to this effect was published on Tuesday. The order has retrospective effect; it will have been in effect from July 1. Three passengers have died and over 20 are injured after several coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express train derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda today. However, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak told PTI that four passengers had died. The incident occurred in Pikaura, between Gonda and Jhilahi in Uttar Pradesh. Officials said one passenger died while he was being taken to Lucknow for further treatment. A rescue team has been sent to the site for relief operations.
