Trump's Iran War Approval Drops Among Republicans, Poll Finds

A fresh survey shows that Republican voters are backing away from strongly supporting President Trump's handling of the Iran war, even though the party's overall approval of him remains solid heading into the midterm elections.

The NBC News Decision Desk poll shows that intense approval among Republicans for how Trump has managed the conflict has dropped considerably since spring. The president's broad approval rating on the war has barely moved, but the strength of that support has clearly softened.

Nationally, 31 percent of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the Iran war, while 69 percent disapprove, numbers that are close to where they stood in the spring, when approval sat at 33 percent and disapproval at 67 percent. The more telling shift shows up when the data is broken down by party.

Among Republicans, the share who say they strongly approve of Trump's approach to Iran fell 18 percentage points since spring, now sitting at 30 percent. That drop was even steeper among MAGA aligned Republicans specifically, whose strong approval fell 21 points to 43 percent.

Even so, broader support within the party hasn't collapsed. Trump still holds approval from 80 percent of Republicans overall and 93 percent of those who identify as MAGA supporters.
