NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian Authority and its institutions, calling for urgent action to address its financial crisis and the full and immediate release of withheld Palestinian clearance revenues.
Manal Radwan, adviser and special envoy to the Saudi foreign minister for negotiations and peace efforts, delivered the Kingdom’s remarks at the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) at the United Nations headquarters in New York on behalf of Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
The meeting was chaired by Norway and co-sponsored by the United States and the European Union.
Radwan stressed that financial obligations should not be linked to the reform process, while reiterating the Kingdom’s support for the Palestinian Authority and its institutions.
She emphasized the importance of coordinating and integrating humanitarian assistance, early recovery efforts and reconstruction financing within a clear political framework that strengthens legitimate Palestinian institutions, preserves the unity of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and supports the Palestinian Authority’s return to assume its responsibilities in Gaza.
Radwan said economic support cannot be separated from realities on the ground, pointing to settlement expansion, settler violence and measures undermining the territorial contiguity and economic viability of a future Palestinian state.
She said such actions directly weaken Palestinian institutions and undermine prospects for realizing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
