Nitin Nabin, the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi amid the ongoing protests against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Nabin accused the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha of acting as a pawn of a "foreign toolkit gang" and working against India's national interests.
Addressing a gathering in Patna, Nabin alleged that Gandhi and his team were unable to accept India's progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and were attempting to undermine the country's development narrative.
The BJP leader said that opposition parties had no objections to the Election Commission when they won polls in states such as Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, but blamed the EC for their defeat in states such as Bihar and West Bengal.
"The Opposition, especially the Congress, is insulting the people's mandate by blaming electoral institutions for its defeats. Rahul Gandhi is acting as a pawn of a foreign toolkit gang and working against India's national interests".
He also criticised the demand for a return to ballot-paper voting, alleging that it could push Bihar back into the era of jungle raj and booth capturing. He alleged that those who had historically captured polling booths and ballot boxes at gunpoint were now demanding a return to ballot paper elections.
Nabin questioned how many opposition leaders had filed complaints after the SIR was conducted by the Election Commission in Bihar and the final electoral roll was published on September 30, 2025.
"The 140 crore people of India are watching," Nabin said, warning that the opposition would not be allowed to succeed in its alleged attempts to undermine the country's interests.
The BJP president asserted that the party would counter what he described as anti-national elements and the opposition's baseless allegations, both on the streets and in Parliament.
"At a time when the entire nation is moving forward, certain forces within the country are unable to accept India's progress. When the world is passing through a period of serious global crises, India remained one of the countries continuing to advance steadily on the path of development despite these challenges," he said.
