Siasat.com reached out to the Medchal Traffic Police Inspector, Kranthi Kumar, who said that Giri was caught for rash driving while under the influence of alcohol.
“Our officers on duty noticed him driving negligently in a crowded market area, thereby causing risk to lives and damaging public property. The traffic police officers immediately pulled him over and seized his two-wheeler. Upon testing, his breath analyser reading was recorded at 156 mg/100 ml, which is a high value,” said Inspector Kumar.
When they took his vehicle on the crane, he jumped on and prevented officials from doing their duty.
He allegedly started arguing and abused Head Constable Khaleel. “He has been repeatedly caught for drunk driving and warned before. This is the third time he was caught. We have initiated legal action against him,” Inspector Kumar told Siasat.com, adding that public safety remains their primary concern.
On the viral video where Khaleel is seen slapping Giri, Inspector Kumar denied it and said, “He did not slap him. He was pleading with him to stop his behaviour.”
