Jindal Steel, IIT Hyderabad Ink MoU to Establish Centre of Excellence for Advanced Steel Products

Hyderabad:Jindal Steel and IIT Hyderabad on Friday an MoU to set up a centre of excellence (CoE) on the institute’s campus to develop and demonstrate high-strength, value-added and value-engineered steel products for construction, defence, power, transportation and heavy engineering sectors. The proposed centre will also work on industry training, technical demonstrations, student programmes and wider adoption of advanced steel grades.

The centre will combine the institute’s technical capabilities with the company’s manufacturing, metallurgical and engineering expertise to work on steel applications that can offer better performance, lower material consumption, faster execution, improved durability and better lifecycle economicsm a statement said.

Its work will cover buildings and bridges, penstocks and large-diameter pipes, defence applications, yellow goods and heavy equipment, power plants, refineries, transportation and other industrial uses. Designers, consultants, engineers, fabricators, EPC companies, equipment manufacturers and project developers are also expected to be part of the work.

IIT Hyderabad Director Prof. B.S. Murty said the centre would allow faculty and students to work closely with industry on real-world applications. The partnership will also include workshops, symposia, demonstration projects, internships, placements, academic modules and industry-academia training. The centre will engage with government agencies, industry stakeholders and end users on technical evaluation and adoption of advanced steel solutions.
