HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath Inspects Phase-II Lake Restoration Works
Hyderabad:HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the ongoing restoration works at Errakunta in Bachupally, Turka Cheruvu in Nizampet and Kamuni Cheruvu in Moosapet as part of the Agency’s Phase-II lake development works and directed officials to ensure that desilting works were completed. At Errakunta, residents of GPR Layout notified the commissioner that the lack of proper connections between the stormwater and sewage drains leading from the lake to Katwakunta was leading to sewage water stagnating across the layout.
Ranganath directed officials to take steps to construct the required drain and asked them to bring the issue to the attention of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) commissioner G. Srijana. He said the drain would also be important for diverting sewage water once Errakunta was fully restored.
At Turka Cheruvu, Ranganath said steps would be taken to bring several temples located around the lake to a common location. He said a meeting would soon be held with temple committee representatives and local residents to discuss the proposal. He also directed officials to ensure that floodwater from Turka Cheruvu was diverted towards Papayyakunta. He said that to prevent sewage from entering the lake, diversion works will be taken up along with a pipeline of about 1,200 metres and all the temporary sheds located within the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) area will also be removed.
At Kamuni Cheruvu in Moosapet, residents told Ranganath that the removal of sewage and foul-smelling water had reduced the mosquito problem in the area. The commissioner said the lake would become more attractive once the restoration works were completed.
