'He Went To Campaign For DU Polls': Congress Takes Dig At PM After SRCC Address

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar has taken a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address at the SRCC Centenary event, that the PM had gone to Delhi University to campaign for the polls, and not to commemorate the event.

Kumar also took a swipe at Prime Minister Modi over his degree, saying that "many claimed the PM had gone to collect his degree." He claimed that not all SRCC alumni were invited to the event and that "only a select few were called."

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera also swiped at the PM's address, calling his speech "boring," in his post on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the Shri Ram College of Commerce Centenary event, used Gen-z lingo, in an massive youth outreach attempt. PM remarked, "saying that you are an SRCC alumnus is a "flex." The Prime Minister, also called the alumni of SRCC, "the real OGs."

PM Modi also used his address to highlight what he described as a transformation in India’s economic and policy landscape. He said that India had moved from a period when the world was concerned about its “policy paralysis” to one where the country’s “dynamic” policy approach was being appreciated globally. He also claimed that the government had “uprooted Naxalism” in the country.

Referring to the latest economic data, Modi said India had recently been “rejuvenated” by a 7.8% growth rate, and pointed to a recent upgrade in India’s sovereign rating by a Japanese credit rating agency. He said the growth had come despite the ongoing conflict in West Asia and challenges facing global trade.

Taking a political swipe at the previous government, Modi said those who had pushed India into the so-called “Fragile Five” category would find it difficult to accept and digest the latest growth figures. The “Fragile Five” was a term used in 2013 to describe India, Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa and Turkey, then seen as emerging economies particularly vulnerable to external financial pressures.
