Gowliguda Gurudwara kicks off 100-year celebrations with marathon

Hyderabad: Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda kicked off its centenary celebrations with a marathon on Sunday, August 23, which saw the participation of over 5,000 people.

The marathon was organised at the HMDA Grounds near IMAX and featured three-kilometre and five-kilometre runs as well as a family walkathon.

Organisers said the marathon was conceived not merely as a sporting event but as an inclusive community celebration marking a significant milestone in the history of the Gurudwara.

The morning began with an energetic warm-up and Zumba session, creating a lively atmosphere ahead of the flag-off. Participants in the three-kilometre run proceeded towards People’s Plaza, while those taking part in the five-kilometre run continued towards Jal Vihar.

Following the runs, participants were served breakfast and refreshments. Sponsors distributed energy drinks and protein bars, and medical support was available throughout the event to attend to participants as needed.

Winners in various categories were honoured with medals and gifts. All participants received T-shirts and bronze medals, while those who took part in the walking segment received digital certificates.

The marathon marks the beginning of a series of religious, cultural and community programmes planned as part of the centenary year celebrations.

Various other programmes are lined up for September, such as Akhand Path Sahib, meaning the continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib; Kirtan Darbar, featuring devotional musical programmes; and Amrit Sanchar, the Sikh initiation ceremony.

The centenary celebrations will bring together Sikh families from across Telangana as well as visitors from different parts of the country.
