Jio has strengthened its commitment to making advanced computing more accessible to studentsand educational institutions with JioPC, a computer-as-a-subscription service that brings powerful, cloud-based computing capabilities without requiring users to invest in a new computer.
JioPCenables users to access a modern computing environment through the cloud and can be configured to meet their computing needs. It can extend the life of an existing laptop or desktop, converting a monitor into a PC through a Jio Set-top box, or enable access to full computing environment through a web browser. This separates the computing experience from the physical device, allowing users to access their JioPC environment across different screens and devices. The device agnostic nature of JioPC also makes it convenient for students and other users who move between locations or devices. The account can be accessed from an existing computer, a television connected through a Jio Set top box, or another monitor.
Importantly, JioPC is not limited to Jio users only. Non-Jio users can access JioPC through a browser using any broadband or internet connection, provided they have an active JioPC subscription.
For student, JioPC, can provide the computing capabilities needed for everything from hybrid classes and educational applications to coding, design, research and generative AI. As academic workloads become increasingly tech-intensive, JioPC allows students to access additional computing capabilities without having to replace an existing laptop or desktop. This helps in extending the usable life of their current devices while providing access to an upgraded computing environment. It offers a practical proposition for schools, colleges and skilling centres. Institutions can upgrade existing computer labs and provide students access to higher computing capabilities without having to replace their entire hardware infrastructure. This enables institutions and students to modernise their computers at a fraction of the cost of a full hardware refresh, while minimising disruption to ongoing learning.
The service is designed around a configurable computing model, allowing users to select computing capabilities based on their requirements. Instead of making a large upfront investment, users can access reliable cloud computing resources through subscription-based plans. This pay-as-you-go approach provides greater flexibility for students, families and institutions.
For JioHome customers, the offering comes with an additional benefit. A ₹100-per-month Jio Home voucher can be redeemed against the broadband bill, effectively reducing the monthly cost of JioPC for eligible users.
Getting started with JioPC is simple. Users can subscribe to a plan and activate the service without the need for data migration or any hardware upgrade. It gives access to compute across device, form factors and locations without the need to carry a hardware through simple login credentials.
JioPCcomes with an Ubuntu (Linux) interface, LibreOffice and web browsers for accessing online applications such as Microsoft 365. It also supports tools such as Adobe Express.Unlike a conventional PC where files are stored on the device, JioPC stores data in enterprise-grade cloud storage with disaster recovery.
The service uses a Zero Trust security model where data is not stored locally on the device. This means that damage to or loss of the computer or set-top box does not affect the user’s stored data.
JioPC addressed the three key challenges faced by any computer users – cost, convenience and content by offering access to shareable, configurable cloud computing without the need for dedicated hardware. With device-independent access, automatic upgrades, integrated cloud storage and flexible subscription-based pricing, it delivers a convenient and cost-effective computing experience enriched by AI tools, productivity and learning platforms.
